Congress could use more tolerance for diversity

Published: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 - 11:10 am

Re “Mideast needs pluralism ethic” (Viewpoints, Jan. 9): In his column, Thomas Friedman quotes author and former Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher regarding the benefits of pluralism, as outlined in his new book. Muasher states that “experience proves that societies cannot keep renewing themselves and thereby thrive except through diversity." He also explains that, contrary to what Arab societies have been taught for decades, tolerance, acceptance of different points of view, and critical thinking are the ways societies renew themselves. Would Muasher please visit the U.S. Congress and pass out copies of his book to prominent GOP leaders?
