Re "Dennis Rodman is pumping up a brutal dictator" (Editorial Notebook, Jan. 9): Former NBA star Dennis Rodman should be applauded for his effort to open doors and bring good will to North Korea. Politicians and journalists are quick to laugh off the friendship of Rodman with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as a childish ploy for attention, but close personal relationships have always been the way for political enemies to move beyond angry rhetoric and entrenched positions. Nothing is easier than ridiculing this bond between two narcissistic clowns, but the truth is that they are moving forward, while the rest of us are frozen in self-righteous intolerance. Though he may be crazy, self-absorbed, and vaguely dangerous, Rodman may also be the perfect ambassador to a country led by a basketball-loving, irrational maniac tyrant.
