'Traditional male' misunderstands feminism

Published: Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 - 1:01 pm

Re “Traditional male offers no apology” (Letters, Jan. 16): Letter writer Michael Lamb seems to have missed the gist of Camille Hayes’ article on feminism. No one is condemning his masculinity. Hayes is only trying to point out that a traditionally masculine gender role isn't a fit for all men. When a sensitive, nurturing man is pressured into a role he doesn't identify with, it can be just as psychologically damaging as a woman, strong and fiercely independent, being forced into a role of passivity. Feminism is primarily interested in every person having the freedom and ability to realize his or her potential.
