Federal grand jury indicts Sacramento man in tax fraud scheme

A federal grand jury Thursday returned a 20-count indictment charging a Sacramento man with making false claims for tax refunds on federal income tax returns.

Manuel Ruiz, 47, allegedly made false claims on federal tax returns he filed for himself as well as on behalf of eight other individuals for a total of $106,547, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

Ruiz is to be arraigned Feb. 6.

The case resulted from an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation.
