Irresponsible breeding promotes poverty

Published: Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 - 7:10 am

Re “To fight poverty, we need new energy and new ideas” (Editorials, Jan. 12): To have any hope whatsoever of winning the War on Poverty, it is necessary to recognize the root cause of poverty, which is irresponsible breeding. So long as irresponsible breeding continues at its present rate, there will never be sufficient taxpayers’ dollars to invest in safety net and social welfare programs designed to reverse the growing number of people living in poverty. In fact, social welfare programs only exacerbate poverty by encouraging irresponsible breeding. The editorial advocates new energy and ideas to combat poverty, but to be successful, they must address the problem of irresponsible breeding.
