Decency calls us to help the homeless

Re “Homeless in Sacramento need a transitional tent city” (Viewpoints, Jan. 12): Thanks to Mark Merin for advocating a transitional tent city for homeless people. It has been said that societies can be judged by how they treat their least fortunate. By that standard, this town, a capital city, is an abysmal failure. Our city leaders should represent all people, not simply the rich. It comes down to basic human decency, or, in this case, a lack thereof.
