Re "Reviving Auburn dam" (Letters, Jan. 17): Letter writer Joe Sullivan is right to be concerned with drought and water storage, as we all should be, but as a geological engineer, he has two major problems with his viewpoint. First, the proposed Auburn dam was abandoned as geologists and engineers discovered early on that it was being constructed on an active fault line. If built, the dam would have endangered our entire region. And second, if Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Elk Grove, is working diligently promoting an Auburn dam, or anything else, it is almost always against the greater good of the public.
