A newer Pleasant Valley Road bridge, built in the early 1970s is visible through a window on the Bridgeport Bridge which crosses the South Yuba River downstream in Nevada County on Wednesday. The historic bridge, built in 1862 by David I. Wood, is said to be the longest wood-covered bridge in the country. It has been closed since 2011 because of structural problems. A group of preservationists is pushing the state to come up with the money to get it fixed and reopened.
