Robert Burns dinner

What: The Dixon Scottish Cultural Association celebrates the birthday of poet and songwriter Robert Burns with a cocktail reception and a multicourse ceremonial meal, which will include traditional Scottish haggis. The evening promises live bagpiping, Scottish folk music, reciting of Robert Burns’ poems, Scotch whisky toasts and men in kilts.

When: 6 p.m. Feb. 1

Where: Davis Masonic Lodge, 1655 Da Vinci Court, Davis

Cost: $40; tickets must be purchased by Saturday and will not be sold at the door.

‘Flappers & Flasks’ in Walnut Creek

What: Walnut Creek will kickoff its centennial celebration with a speakeasy party that includes cocktails and bites, “hooch” tastings, live entertainment and dancing.

Murer House Foundation Italian Cooking

What: Learn to make risotto ai funghi porcini (Risotto with porcini mushrooms) under the instruction of Orietta Gianjoria. Because the lesson will include a wine pairing, it is limited to those 21 or older.
