Re-evaluate teen-assault sentences

Published: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 - 4:10 pm

Re “Teens serve days for attack” (Letters, Jan. 21): I agree with letter writer Paula McManus regarding the inappropriate sentencing of three teenage boys who admitted that they sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl and displayed photos of her assault. She later committed suicide. There is something terribly wrong with the sentences that ranged from 30 to 45 days for these boys. What was the basis for these sentences? If they were based on law or regulation, that law or regulation needs to be justified or changed, and these sentences need to be re-evaluated. -- Jacquie Swaback, Sacramento
