Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in an Arden area apartment complex this afternoon.
The shooting is believed to have occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at an apartment complex on Ethan Way, just north of Alta Arden Way and east of Arden Fair Mall, said sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Bowman.
The victim, identified only as a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead after arriving at a local hospital. He was transported there by family members, Bowman said.
Just before 3 p.m., sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call in which a woman speaking Spanish could be heard before the call ended, Bowman said. A few minutes later, a second call came in in which dispatchers could hear people talking in the background before the call again ended.
A third 911 call came in shortly thereafter in which a woman who identified herself as the manager of the apartment complex and said she had heard a person had been shot there, Bowman said.
As deputies were responding to the scene, a sheriff’s deputy at a local hospital became aware of a gunshot victim who had arrived. The victim was pronounced dead, and deputies traced the victim back to the Ethan Way shooting.
Deputies initially had trouble gathering information at the scene, as many of the residents speak Spanish, Bowman said. Spanish-speaking deputies soon arrived and are helping homicide detectives with their investigation.
Based on their initial findings, investigators believe the victim was shot following an argument at the complex. Authorities have not identified the shooter.
