    107 S Harding Blvd, Roseville, CA 95678

    Emily Wong and her husband, Henry Wong, closed the doors of their 25-year-old labor of love, Roseville Gourmet, on January 31 and walked away into retirement. The Chinese restaurant was known for its authentic, MSG-free, fairly priced and well-sauced dishes. Read more.

    1801 L Street, Suite 70, Sacramento, California 95811

    TreyBcakes closed on January 31, 2014. The popular gourmet dessert was a smash hit when opened in March 2011 (they sold out of everything the first day) and went on to be featured on Food Network's "Cupcake Wars." The announcement on Facebook said the business had been sold and that the owner, Trey Luzzi, was returning to government service. Read more.

    Open: Jensai Sushi

    2210 16th St Sacramento, CA 95818

    Jensai Sushi opened in January to a packed house in the Midtown Sacramento space that was the longtime home of Kamon Sushi. After 15 years, the owners of Kamon decided to sell their popular Japanese restaurant. Jensai has some of the familiar Kamon favorites on the menu but has also added its own specialties. Read more.

    Michael Thiemann, who once ran the kitchen at Ella Dining Room & Bar before leaving for the Tyler Florence Restaurant Group, has come back to Sacramento with a flourish as the chef and visionary behind Mother.
