Record high predicted for today in Sacramento

A record high temperature could occur again Friday in Sacramento.

The record on Thursday was broken when the afternoon temperature reached 71 degrees. The previous all-time high for Jan. 23 was 69 degrees, a mark set in 1948.

The high Friday is expected to once again reach 71 degrees. The record high for today is 70, a high temperature set in 1984.

National Weather Service forecasters say that there are signs that rain may come to the west coast next week. The detailed, 7-day forecast for Sacramento from the NWS:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 71. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 71. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 40. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 69. Light and variable wind.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 68.

Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 73.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
