The woman accused of drowning her 5-year-old daughter and then transporting the girl’s body in her trunk intends to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, the Yolo County District Attorney’s office said her attorney indicated in court Friday.

Aquelin Talamantes of Davis is scheduled to appear in court again Feb. 5. A superior court judge ruled earlier this month that there is sufficient evidence for her to stand trial for murder in the death of Tatiana Garcia.

Talamantes, 29, is accused of drowning the girl in the bathtub of the Davis home they shared with Tatiana’s 4-year-old brother, Michael; Talamantes’ sister, Elisa Torres; and Torres’ son. Prosecutors said Talamantes then stuffed the girl in the trunk of her car and drove to another sister’s house in Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood, where concerned family members and police discovered the girl's body.
