Cuomo reflects party’s intolerance

Re “GOP gubernatorial candidate shows party's problem” (Editorials, Jan. 22): Might I suggest a follow-up headline to this one’s on Wednesday’s editorial. It would read: "Gov. Andrew Cuomo shows party's problem." For the New York governor to proclaim that so-called extreme conservatives have no place in his state reveals the true nature of his party: intractable, intolerant and contemptuous of the Constitution. Just imagine if The Bee's favorite whipping boy, Congressman Tom McClintock, R-Elk Grove, had uttered a similar outrageous statement about extreme progressives in California. Such a grievous affront would have been met with howls of protest, even to the extent of inviting William Endicott to honor The Bee with another of his fair-minded, exclusive articles.
