Plastic bag ban will cause energy loss

Re “Capitol revisits plastic bag ban” (Page A1, Jan. 24): The ban on plastic bags is not a good idea. It will mean using cloth bags that will become laden with bacteria requiring washing with water and drying in the clothes dryer, all which use electricity. Often, consumers may use plastic garbage bags to keep the garbage cans clean. If plastic bags are banned, it will mean washing out the garbage cans, which uses up water during the drought. Will consumers have to use paper bags for the stores’ wet produce, instead of putting it in plastic bags? In addition, spending 10 cents per paper bag will make most cloth grocery bags cheaper than paper bags.
