Re Final arena plans unveiled (Page A1, Jan. 28): I was astounded by the glowing terms used by reporters (and in the editorial) to describe the design presented in the Sacramento Bee on Tuesday. The design attempts to superficially connect to the environment around Sacramento, while completely ignoring any site context with Sacramento itself. The exterior design is reminiscent of a crushed aluminum can discarded within the heart of Sacramento. Perhaps, it is a metaphor for the crushed election hopes of the arena subsidy opponents. Either way, the arena design fails to say anything about Sacramento, except that it is a place to pass through on your way to the mountains and other scenic feature surrounding the area. Should the Kings be successful in building this arena, I am sure that it will be a functional building. Unfortunately, this design will fail in its attempt to represent Sacramento or its citizens.
