Raw video: Big-rig chase in Stockton ends after four hours

Published: Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 - 9:09 am

Police were involved in an unusual four-hour, slow-speed chase of a big rig carrying a heavy load of scrap metal on Stockton streets before the driver finally pulled over.

Stockton Police began following the stolen rig at 3:18 a.m. Thursday, leading to the ongoing pursuit on downtown surface streets. It ended around 7 a.m. when the driver pulled over and fled.

He was eventually taken into custody.

Police and California Highway Patrol officers followed the truck, which was hauling up to 80,000 pounds of scrap metal, according to CHP Officer Rich Wetzel. The vehicle moved at 25- to 30-mph on residential streets.

The driver, a male of unknown age, drove in circles as officers patiently followed him before he stopped the rig.
