Woodland thieves target vehicles left running, unattended

Published: Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 - 8:00 pm

Woodland police urge motorists to heed the warning not to leave vehicles unattended with keys in the ignition.

During the month of January, the Woodland Police Department has responded to more than 10 reports of vehicles that were stolen when victims left their cars unattended and running with their keys in the ignition in an effort to warm them up. In most cases, the vehicle was unlocked in the driveway or on the street in front of the victim’s home.

Police urge motorists to stay with their vehicles when warming them up to prevent crimes of opportunity. They also note that it is a California Vehicle Code violation in some instances to leave a vehicle running and unattended.

Anyone with information regarding the recent vehicle thefts is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800.
