Re Why Brown skipped two issues (Capitol & California, Jan. 24): Do we have a governor with some kind of split personality? I mean this seriously. Gov. Jerry Brown has wisely advocated saving nickels and dimes here and there, but then he advocates spending mega-dollars on two insane projects - building giant water tunnels and building a luxury train system to go from nowhere to nowhere and carry no one. The train project is just plain crazy since there is no real need for it and the cost is astronomical. The water problem is real, but moving scarce water from one part of the state to another makes little sense, leaving us still short of water overall. There is an answer to the water problem if the governor really wants to spend money on it. Look to Saudi Arabia. They desalinate millions of gallons of ocean water every day. Put the desalinization plants along the Southern California coast.
