Re Lighten up on e-cigarettes (Another View, Jan. 26): I believe e-cigarettes should be a controlled product. Although, they do not emit smoke, they still contain tobacco and emit vapor into the air. If we do not regulate e-cigarettes like other drugs, it will cause conflict with nonsmokers and smokers because traditional smokers are banned from smoking in certain areas whereas e-cigarettes are allowed everywhere. There are many sides to the e-cigarette. It could be beneficial in some cases because users can control the amount of nicotine, which allows some to slowly quit smoking. I have witnessed somebody quit smoking by lowering the nicotine intake over time. For that reason, e-cigarettes should be regulated as regular cigarettes, rather than banned.
