Rosevilles violent crime rate last year was down and property crime slightly increased last year.
After tabulating the citys 2013 crime data, Roseville police say that the violent crime rate, the number of violent crimes reported per 100,00 residents, dropped nine percent.
Rosevilles rate of violent crime, typically low when compared to other communities in the region, usually runs 40 percent below the state average, according to a police department newsletter.
The property crime rate increased one percent, mostly due to more reports of shoplifting.
To lower crime, police ask residents to keep watch for suspicious people and circumstances. On Saturday, at about 7:30 a.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Striped Moss Street because a neighbor noticed a man peering into cars and walking onto lawns.
Officers arrested the 44-year-old Granite Bay man on burglary and drug charges in the backyard of a vacant house. He had allegedly entered the home through a sliding glass door.
