Kings center DeMarcus Cousins will miss his fifth consecutive game due to a sprained left ankle.

Aaron Gray will start at center for Cousins.

“I’ve never had one this bad and it’s extremely frustrating,” Cousins said. “I kind of irritated it more by trying to rush myself to come back faster than I should have so that kind of slowed down the process. The swelling has gone down, now it’s a process of dealing with the pain. That’s what we’re going through.”

The Kings play at San Antonio on Saturday and Cousins is unlikely to be in the lineup.

“There’s a chance but I’ll be very honest he’s more doubtful than anything,” said Kings coach Michael Malone. “Not having had a chance to get a full practice in, full shootaround in, you don’t want to rush a guy back just to get him in the game. We’ll probably be smart with it, give him a couple more days and hopefully he can play when we go home.”

The Kings host Chicago on Monday.

*Malone said having Carl Landry back in the lineup should help the defense because he’s vocal on the court.

Too many times the Kings do not talk on defense until after the opponent has scored.

“Carl is great at communicating,” Malone said. “And one of our teaching points is to talk ELC -- early, loud and continuously -- and Carl’s great at that.”

Prediction time: We’ve got two teams, neither known for their stout defense. But the Kings are without the player who might be the best on either team, Cousins.

Mavs 113, Kings 110

My record: 28-17
