Published: Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 - 7:01 pm

A drunk driver swerved his vehicle into the path of another car in rural Placer County on Saturday, killing one person and injuring a 10-year-old girl, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eugene Louis Mitchell, 35, of Foresthill, was driving his Dodge Ram truck west on Foresthill Road near Upper Lake Clementine about 7 a.m. when his truck drifted into the path of a Chevrolet Malibu in the opposite lane.

The resulting impact killed the driver of the Malibu, a 58-year-old woman whose name has not been released. A 10-year-old girl riding in the Malibu was taken by helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center.

Mitchell suffered major injuries. Authorities arrested him at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He will be charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, CHP officials said.

CHP officers are still investigating the crash, which closed Foresthill Road for about two hours.
