Dylan Garrity heaved a buzzer-beating 75-foot 3-pointer in overtime for Sacramento State, shocking Big Sky Conference leader Weber State 78-75 on Saturday night at The Nest.
The Hornets (8-11, 4-6) trailed by one when a double technical foul was called on Weber State, giving Mikh McKinney four free-throw attempts. McKinney, who finished with 30 points, sank all four to give Sac State a 75-72 lead with seven seconds left.
Weber State (11-7, 8-2) tied the score as Davion Berry sank a contested 3-pointer with less than a second remaining. Garrity corralled the ensuing inbound pass and swished it from Weber State’s 3-point line, ending the Wildcats’ six-game winning streak.
Garrity finished with 13 points, and Eric Stuteville had 14 with nine rebounds.
UC Santa Barbara 82, UC Davis 67 in Santa Barbara – Ryan Sypkens (Franklin High) scored 22 points and Corey Hawkins 15, but the Aggies (7-15, 2-5 Big West Conference) fell to the Gauchos (14-6, 5-2).
Sac State 111, Weber State 104 in Ogden, Utah – Freshman Gigi Hascheff had a career-high 27 points to lead five Hornets in double figures as the Hornets broke the Big Sky single-game scoring record for the second time this season, Sac State reported.
Sac State (14-5, 6-4) topped its previous Big Sky record of 110 points on Thursday against North Dakota and equaled the program record. The 215 combined points also broke the conference record as Weber State (4-15, 0-10) dropped its 48th consecutive Big Sky game dating to 2011.
UC Davis 82, UC Santa Barbara 70 at the Pavilion – The Gauchos opened an 11-point lead in the opening minutes, but the Aggies recovered to lead at halftime and never looked back en route to a Big West win, UC Davis reported on its athletics website.
Alyson Doherty led UCD (9-11, 4-3) with 23 points, and Sydnee Fipps added 21 points while surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career. Nicole Nesbit led Santa Barbara (6-14, 1-6) with 17 points, and Melissa Zornig tallied 14.
