Two UC Davis athletes opened the indoor track and field season by setting school records Saturday at the University of Washington Invitational in Seattle.
Praise Adesida reached 48 feet, 101/4 inches in the shot put, finishing fifth, according to UCD’s athletics website. That broke the previous record of 48-9 set by Chidinma Onyewuenyi in 2011.
In the 3,000 meters, Alycia Cridebring finished in a personal-best 9 minutes, 16.39 seconds – eighth in her heat. Cridebring beat the previous school record set by Olympian Kim Conley (9:19.16).
Eight Aggies hit marks that rank them among the top five on the school’s all-time list.
The women’s 4x400 relay team capped the day with a victory, finishing in 3:46.43.
USF edges UC Davis tennis
San Francisco’s Rich Van Hout defeated UC Davis’ Parker Kelley 5-6, 6-1, 6-5 (10-6 tiebreaker) in the final match, and the Aggies (0-3) lost to the visiting Dons 4-3.
No. 2 Alec Adamson, No. 4 Brett Bacharach (Del Oro High School) and No. 6 Bryce McKelvie won singles matches for the Aggies.
Today’s match with Loyola Marymount has been changed to 11 a.m. in an effort to avoid inclement weather.
UCD water polo drops two
Junior Keelia Houston scored a goal in each game as 17th-ranked UC Davis (1-3) lost to No. 2 Stanford 16-3 and No. 5 UC Irvine 11-4 at the Stanford Invitational.
