Re "Retiree benefits sink city in debt" (Our Region, Feb. 2): Sacramento City Manager John Shirey has criticized past city councils for their mistakes in not fully funding retiree benefits, putting the city in the position of having more than $500 million in unfunded liabilities.
So what does the current city council want? It wants to spend $258 million, and probably more when it all shakes out, to pay for a new downtown arena for millionaire players and billionaire owners.
What could possibly go wrong with this idea?
