Re "Classical music gets a break, not a cure" (Our Region, Feb. 2): I am a serious opera lover. I have season tickets to the San Francisco Opera. I've traveled to a number of cities just to see an opera performance.
But I am also a practical person. If dropping the Sacramento opera improves the financial outlook for the Philharmonic, it should be done.
Sadly, the availability of the outstanding Metropolitan Opera HD performances makes local opera less sustainable. Richly fed by the Met and San Francisco, I have lost interest in the less polished offerings of the Sacramento Opera.
While it is sad to lose an opera company, it would be worse to also lose the excellent Sacramento Philharmonic.
