Sacramento area forecast: Chill in air will lead into rainy weather

Early temperatures Tuesday in Sacramento landed at 32 degrees - a chill that marks the entrance of a cold low-pressure system that will likely bring rain to the area Wednesday night.

Moisture will gradually increase throughout the week, and there is a chance of light snow in the foothills Wednesday night. A wetter weather system will likely arrive over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The air will remain cool and damp today with a 92 percent humidity rate and a high of 57 degrees. Temperatures are expected to hit a low of 29 degrees tonight in Sacramento.

Tonight: Low 29, partly cloudy

Wednesday: High 57, Low 36, with a 40 percent chance of showers

Thursday: High 55, Low 31, with a 40 percent chance of showers

Friday: High 54, Low 31, with a 20 percent chance of showers

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54 and a slim chance of rain
