Sacramento sheriff’s detectives arrest two in Marconi Ave. homicide

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 - 1:19 pm

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man last month.

Christopher Bernal, 33, and Jacob Reed Fisher, 20, are accused in the Jan. 18 death of Justin David Gonzales, 34, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Bowman. Detectives arrested Bernal and Fisher on Monday and booked them into the Main Jail on suspicion of murder.

Fisher also was booked on several outstanding warrants for crimes such as car theft, receiving stolen property and possession of burglar’s tools, according to jail booking records. Those records also indicate Bernal also is accused of violating the terms of his parole.

The night of Jan. 18, deputies responded to calls of a shooting at an apartment complex on the 4700 block of Marconi Avenue. They found Gonzales, a Citrus Heights resident, suffering a gunshot wound and attempted life-saving efforts, but they were not successful.

Detectives allege that the suspects and the victim were in an altercation before the shooting stemming from an “ongoing personal dispute,” Bowman said.

Fisher is scheduled to be arraigned today, and Bernal on Wednesday.
