Re "Kings' payment an ante on streetcars" (Editorials, Feb. 4): The Bee's editorial board thinks streetcars could be part of a smarter solution to the problem. There is another smarter solution.
It's time to start planning the relocation of Interstate 5. We all know that former city leaders never should have insisted on building I-5 through downtown Sacramento. The current congestion, pollution, and safety problems created by the freeway are only going to get worse even without the arena.
I-5 needs be relocated along the eastern side of the Yolo Bypass starting south of Freeport reconnecting with the current freeway west of the Airport. Perhaps after the relocation, downtown could be reconnected with the river by turning the current freeway into a parkway similar to San Francisco's Embarcadero after their freeway disappeared.
