Prescribed fire operations are planned today at five locations in south and west Lake Tahoe.
U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will continue the fires through the weekend, weather permitting.
Smoke from the prescribed burns may be visible on Highway 89 near Camp Richardson, Emerald Bay State Park and Tahoma.
On the south shore, operations will take place on the east side of Tahoe Mountain in South Lake Tahoe, the south side of Highway 89 near Camp Richardson, and off of North Upper Truckee Road in the Angora fire area south of Mule Deer Circle.
On the west shore, prescribed burns will be set across from Emerald Bay State Park and on the west side of Highway 89 near Tahoma.
Updates on the fires will be available on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit's fire information line, (530) 543-2600, Ext. 6.
Prescribed fires are conducted to reduce wildfire risk in the basin. Every effort is made to plan them during weather patterns that carry smoke away from communities, according to a Forest Service news release.
