Police seek key witnesses to fatal crash on Howe Avenue

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 - 6:28 pm

The Sacramento Police Department seeks to identify and contact possible key witnesses to a fatal vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday on Howe Avenue near American River Drive.

Deshpal Singh, 25, and Pardeep Singh Aulakh, 23, both of Sacramento, died in the crash, which occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. when their car, apparently speeding south on Howe Avenue, struck a tree in the center divider just south of American River Drive, according to police. Both men reportedly were ejected from the vehicle, which was in flames when officers arrived at the scene.

Police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante said numerous witnesses told police that a white taxi van, possibly a Toyota Sienna, was one of the first vehicles on the scene after the collision. The van and a dark sedan reportedly stopped in the southbound lanes of Howe with their flashers on, and the occupants appeared to be pulling the victims from the vehicle before it caught fire.

Gigante said these individuals are pertinent and crucial witnesses, and also should be thanked for their actions.

Anyone with information regarding these vehicles is asked to call the Police Department’s dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357, or text a tip to 274637. Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
