BOSTON -- The Kings will be without Rudy Gay tonight against the Boston Celtics due to illness.
Marcus Thornton (bruised right hip contusion) is also out.
“Marcus obviously got hurt last game, a hard fall and hurt his knee and his hip so he won’t play tonight,” said Kings coach Michael Malone. “Rudy wasn’t feeling well last night and hasn’t been able to eat anything all day so he’s just sick right now.”
Ben McLemore will start at shooting guard for Thornton. Derrick Williams, who missed Wednesday’s win over Toronto with a strained left foot, will start for Gay.
The juggling of the lineups means Jimmer Fredette will have to play shooting guard at times tonight and Ray McCallum will play backup guard minutes, too. Travis Outlaw will see time off the bench, too.
*Boston will be without Rajon Rondo (general soreness) and Avery Bradley (ankle). Vitor Faverani (knee) is also out for Boston.
“He’s played nine games in 20 days and hasn’t done that in a year,” said Boston coach Brad Stevens of Rondo.
Prediction time: Both teams are without two starters, but the Kings have the best player on the floor, DeMarcus Cousins.
