Re "Tomato-paste mogul helps bankroll area subsidy fight" (Page (A1, Feb. 9): Another self-absorbed libertarian regales us with how independently he arrived at his wealth in the second most heavily subsidized industry of them all, agribusiness.
He was a trucker and processor of intermediate products, but obviously, the huge subsidies agribusiness farming has enjoyed for decades indirectly subsidized the pricing that he was able to command at his intermediate stage of tomato processing.
I call the Libertarian Party the Me For Me Party.
Whatever usage of public money is proposed, if it will directly benefit me, I'm for it. If not, I'm against it. One of the public money usages that Rufer does find acceptable, the defense industry, would be the most heavily subsidized industry in this country.
