Re "Danish zoo kills healthy giraffe" (Page A7, Feb. 9): The Copenhagen Zoo ahead with the execution. We put these poor animals in zoos and cages. Is it their fault that we breed too many? Does it give us the right to kill them when the zoos are too full?
The poor creatures did not ask to be there. Killing a healthy, 2-year-old giraffe is wrong. The situation could have been avoided by accepting one of the offers from two neighboring zoos or the one independent buyer to re-home the animal. Instead, the zoo publicized the event and flayed the young giraffe in front of young children and families. It is disgusting and saddens me to know what humans are capable of.
I refuse to set foot in another zoo again.
