'Spay Day' offers cat services to low-income families

The Sacramento Area Animal Coalition is offering qualified residents of Sacramento and Yolo counties a deep discount on spay and neutering services for their pet cats as part of “Spay Day Sacramento” on Feb. 23. Families on public assistance or who earn less than $35,000 a year can receive $250 worth of services – spay or neutering, vaccinations, microchip identification – for just $15.

Proof of public assistance or income is required. Qualified pet owners can apply at Applications for appointments will not be accepted by telephone, so people without Internet access are encouraged to visit the nearest public library to apply.

Spay Day Sacramento, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, has spayed or neutered nearly 8,300 cats and dogs since the event began in 2000.
