Ask Sacto 911 crime Q&A: Was anyone arrested for 1989 execution-style slayings at mechanic’s shop?

Back in the early 1980s, I believe, a friend of mine was murdered “execution style” -- shot in the back of the head at his mechanic shop in Citrus Heights. His name was Douglas Kincaid. Was anyone ever arrested for this?

– Lorna, Carmichael

Douglas Kincaid, 40, and Robert Ludwig, 29, were shot to death execution style during an apparent robbery in the early morning hours of Feb. 12, 1989.

According to stories in The Bee, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call at 3:17 a.m. discovered the bodies of Kincaid and Ludwig on the floor of the business, White Line Automotive, at 5517 Hemlock St., in Foothill Farms. Detectives said the victims appeared to have been shot without a struggle, and drawers in the garage had been ransacked.

A witness told deputies that he heard gunshots about 2:30 a.m., then saw three men speed away from the garage in a white 1972-74 Chevrolet Caprice or Impala with a dark vinyl half-roof.

A friend and neighbor said Kincaid, married and the father of three, owned the garage and often worked there late at night. Ludwig had worked for Kincaid as a mechanic and garage maintenance man for several months.

The business catered to owners of high-speed and exotic vehicles.

Following the slayings, The Bee’s Secret Witness program offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions in the case. No arrests were reported.
