Re "Gavin Newsom was right about gay marriage" (Viewpoints, Feb. 11): Shallow thinkers like Gavin Newsom, Bruce Maiman and others think with only the heart, or political expediency, on the issue of gay marriage, rather than looking at the implications.
Maiman hopes we can finally to things that matter. This is not likely to be, for while it is stupid to think of granting the right to marry an animal, there are many other possibilities now made quit reasonable since there is no longer a clear definition of marriage.
Medical and moral issues will no longer be valid and will fall with a court challenge. Shallow thinkers have not just redefined marriage but have rendered it undefined.
