There is no nursing shortage

Re "Still waiting for license" (Letters, Feb. 11): The Board of Registered Nursing's computer issues have the media and some legislators again stating that there is a nursing shortage in California.

I'd like to know where and so would the new graduates of nursing programs who have looked for entry-level employment.

Generally, most nursing employers are looking for experienced nurses and hire travelers from out of the area rather than train local citizens. Short-sighted in my opinion, they are missing the opportunity to grow their own. Taxpayer dollars and student sacrifices are wasted as discouraged new grads take jobs in other industries to survive.
