Re "Gavin Newsom was right about gay marriage" (Viewpoints, Feb. 11): Writer Bruce Maiman says there is nothing in the Constitution to deny same sex marriage. Likewise, there is nothing in the Constitution to prohibit child pornography, but many who practice it claim the right under the free speech language.
When the Constitution was written, our forefathers understood that the Bible was the nation's moral compass. So today due to the Bible being pretty much ignored in this country, the Constitution is being used for something it was not intended. The Bible does speak to immoral conduct, so perhaps Newsom's conclusion resulted from him having read the wrong books.
God has set our moral standard, not Gavin Newsom.
