Re "Let's find a compromise on climate" (Forum, Feb. 9): Jeffrey Meyer should take some college level geology courses. He would learn that no tangible, physical evidence exists that proves a cause-and-effect relationship between global climate changes and atmospheric CO2.
Greenland ice core oxygen isotope data (GISP2) show remarkable swings in climate over the past 100,000 years. In just the past 500 years, Greenland warming/cooling temperatures fluctuated back and forth about 40 times, with changes in every 25-30 years. None of these changes could have been caused by atmospheric CO2 because they predate the large CO2 emissions that began about 1945. If he really wants to reduce CO2 emissions, he should start with uncontrolled underground coal mine fires in China and India, which alone produce more CO2 per year that all the cars and light trucks in America. He would instead assign fees and taxes on fossil fuels which will only hurt our economy.
