We can do better with homelessness

Re "Faces of the homeless" (Forum, Feb. 9): Having helped my church with our yearly Winter Sanctuary, during which we house and feed 100 homeless people for a week, I am encouraged by your article and by the pictures of the homeless.

These people are valuable members of our society who need a hand up. Some are there because of bad choices or circumstances, but all of them are God's children.

What a shame that the most populous state in the nation and the capital of it would have such so many homeless. Instead of plans for a new sports arena why not have a building of this size to house the homeless? We can do much better.
