Re "Concealed gun law overturned" (A3, Feb. 14):
The story made it sound like it was very easy to get a concealed carry permit in San Diego and that the ruling by the U.S. Ninth Circuit panel would seemingly remove all reasonable restrictions. This is far from the truth.
In reality, no one who was not a celebrity or wealthy political donor was allowed a permit in San Diego before this ruling.
Sacramento County was sued similarly in 2010 and settled the suit by agreeing to issue permits to law-abiding citizens for the sole purpose of self defense. Since then, thousands of citizens in Sacramento County have obtained their permits and carry a weapon on a daily basis.
Folks, that means that every time you go to the grocery store, or the mall, someone near you is carrying a gun.
Not so bad, is it?
