Regional digest: Sac State softball wins two in Fresno

Sacramento State’s offense came alive, as the Hornets scored 20 runs in two wins Saturday at the Fresno State Softball Kickoff tournament.

The Hornets, who scored just three runs in their previous three games, defeated UC Riverside 9-1 and Cal State Bakersfield 11-6, Sac State reported on its athletics website.

The Hornets (2-3) meet UC Riverside today.

Alexis Martinez and Paris Prado each had two hits and two RBIs in the five-inning, mercy-rule win over Riverside. Paige Castro (Franklin High School) was 3 for 3.

In the win over Cal State Bakersfield, Nicole Clark (Folsom High) and Kortney Solis each had three hits and two RBIs. Sasha Margulies doubled and tripled. Prado and Martinez each had two hits.

• UC Davis broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth and beat Robert Morris 2-1 in the Stacy Winsburg Memorial Tournament in Los Angeles.

The Aggies (4-7) took the lead on a Cat Guidry (Vista del Lago) single that scored pinch-runner Brianna Warner, UCD reported on its athletics website.

Kelly Zboralske (St. Francis) doubled in Jasmine Lee in the first inning for UC Davis.

In the Aggies’ eight-inning 9-8 loss to Western Kentucky, Guidry had three hits and three RBIs. Christa Castello had two hits and three RBIs.

• Sacramento State was held to just three hits in a 2-1 loss to visiting Utah.

A sacrifice fly to right by Will Soto (Elk Grove High) scored Rhys Hoskins (Jesuit), who led off the seventh inning with a walk.

The Hornets (1-1) and Utes (1-1) continue their four-game season-opening series today.

• UC Davis split its doubleheader against visiting Seattle, UCD reported on its athletics website.

The Aggies lost the nightcap 4-3 in nine innings. The Redhawks tied the score 3-3 with a three-run rally in the seventh.

Seth Batty had two hits and Steven Patterson two RBIs for the Aggies.

In their win 4-3 win, the Aggies (1-2) got three hits from Adam Young and two hits each from Batty, Kevin Barker and Izaak Silva.

wins in Seattle

A day after setting a UC Davis record in the 200 meters (24.56 seconds), Ashley Marshall won the 60 meters at the Husky Classic indoor track and field meet in Seattle in a time of 7.41 seconds, UCD reported on its athletics website. The Aggies’ 4 x 400 relay team of Marshall, Cekarri Nixon (St. Francis), Shanie Landen and Rochelle Nadreau placed second in 3:45.16.
