Sacramento State scored a run in the ninth with two outs but left the tying run stranded at second in a 5-4 nonconference baseball loss to visiting Utah on Monday.

The Hornets (2-2) split their four-game series with the Utes (2-2), Sac State’s athletics website reported.

Brandon Hunley (Christian Brothers High School) singled in Scotty Burcham, who had singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Will Soto (Elk Grove), Nathan Lukes (Center) and Chris Lewis had the Hornets’ other RBIs.

Hornets 3rd in men’s golf

• Third-place Sac State trailed host Cal State Fullerton by 16 strokes entering today’s final round of the Folino Invitational men’s golf tournament in Industry. UC Irvine was second, 14 strokes back.

• UC Davis’ Ben Corfee shot a 3-under-par 68 in the first round of The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta and was tied for second, three shots behind Stanford’s Maverick McNealy and Patrick Rodgers. The Aggies were ninth.
