Re "Kerry: Climate change poses fearsome threat" (Page A9, Feb. 17): Secretary of State John Kerry addressed a group of students and government officials, and called climate change perhaps the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.
I was reminded of the movie "On the Beach." in which a massive nuclear exchange has contaminated the earth. Australia is the last place to be affected. The government has made pills available for people wishing a quick death. A banner proclaiming "There is Still Time, Brother," is raised.
Kerry does not envision the loss of all life on the planet but notes the possibility of serious flooding, droughts and famine.
The fact that global warming is linked to our burning of carbon-based fuels is beyond dispute. What should be in dispute is any notion that there is still time, brother.
