After practice Tuesday, Kings general manager Pete DAlessandro approached reporters unprompted to dispel trade rumors involving rookie guard Ben McLemore. The trade deadline is Thursday at noon PST.
Ben has been and is an integral part of what were doing, DAlessandro said. So Im standing here today and saying Ben McLemore is a guy we havent put in deals, hes a guy that we love here.
DAlessandro was responding to a national report that McLemore could be part of a package offered to the Boston Celtics for guard Rajon Rondo. DAlessandro said the Kings havent put Ben in anything and look at Ben as a major part of what were doing here long term.
DAlessandro said he was motivated to address the report out respect for Kings fans and McLemore, and was later seen talking with McLemore on the practice court. Asked about another report Tuesday that had the Kings in trade talks with the Brooklyn Nets involving guard Marcus Thornton, DAlessandro declined to get into specifics.
I wont confirm or deny any talks that we have, he said. But I would say that theres a lot of reasons that things get out, and I think what I am trying to be, and hope to be as a general manager, is as up front with our fans as I can be.
Injury report DeMarcus Cousins (left hip flexor strain) did not practice Tuesday and is questionable/doubtful to play tonight against Golden State, coach Michael Malone said. Cousins had an MRI on Monday, but Malone said results came back inconclusive and Cousins was scheduled to have another test Tuesday.
They want to get a clearer image of that (hip) area to make sure it is what they think, and its not anything more serious than what we think right now, Malone said.
Guard Jimmer Fredette, who missed practice Monday because of illness, was back on the floor Tuesday and should be available tonight, Malone said.
