U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner and three members of his staff have been honored by California Lawyer magazine with its Attorneys of the Year award for leading an investigation that forced JPMorgan Chase, the nations biggest bank, to cough up $13 billion for its role in creating toxic mortgage debt, Wagners office announced today.
It was the largest U.S. Department of Justice civil settlement with a single entity in American history, according to the announcement.
The magazines awards are presented each year to members of the California bar whose work has resulted in significant impacts.
In addition to Wagner, award recipients are David Shelledy, chief of the U.S. attorneys civil division; Kelli Taylor, chief of the offices affirmative civil enforcement unit; and Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Kennedy.
