Re "Annual fest celebrates all of Chinese culture" (Page B1, Feb.16): The article is misleading. First, it is not "Chinese" New Year. It is Lunar New Year, celebrated by Asian cultures in Vietnam, Korea and Taiwan, not just China.
Second, the article implies that the majority of the Taiwanese people wish to unite with China and this is incorrect. On October 30, 2013, a survey by the prominent TVBS in Taiwan found that giving the residents of Taiwan choice between independence and unification with China, 71 percent chose independence and 18 percent chose unification.
On September 15, 2013,the approval-rating of Taiwan President Ma Yingjeou was at embarrassing 9.2 percent. Ma wishes to unify with China, against the wishes of the majority of the Taiwanese.
China has stationed more than 1,500 ballistic missiles along the coastline aiming at Taiwan. China keeps blocking Taiwan from participating in any world events trying to isolate Taiwan. Why would Taiwan wish to unify with China ?
